There was just something about New England that took my breath away. Turning every corner, we were both giddy like kids, we couldn’t believe the vibrant colors that were all around. So natural, so unpretentious. Just showing off their colors for nobody in particular. The aspen leaves looked like shimmering golden sequins in the sun. But even then, my favorite days were the ones where the sky was perfectly gray without any variation. Just a blanket of white that made every color brighter as if it were painted on a perfect canvas. If it were up to me, every day would be gray.

We drove through the tiniest of towns, advertising “free hot dogs at noon” and “pie and dancing at 7”. How could you not fall in love with a town where people gather for pie?

The turkeys roamed freely, we played card games, watched movies, played cd’s on the stereo, attempted a 1,000 piece puzzle, challenged each other’s words in Scrabble, raced cars on the old Nintendo and swung outside on the rope swing. We moseyed around shops, talked and laughed with the friendliest people, and left with a so many wonderful memories… (and photos.) We drove hundreds of miles, enjoying every inch that our new found corner of this country had to offer. I’m sure one day we’ll go back.

As for Ezra, he had the best time of his life. Really. He cried so hard when “nana” and “papa” left and we took the reins again. He has  been asking for them all day. A little depressing? Yeah. Considering I was expecting a grand reunion with tight neck squeezes, kisses and tears. But it makes me so happy to know he was so loved and had a fantastic time without us. 🙂

Your photos are wonderful!! Fall is a great time to be in New England. I grew up in the north/north east and am now in TX. Our Fall has barely arrived and the leaves here never look like the ones in your pictures! Gorgeous!

Thank you! Fall is yet to arrive in San Diego. But that’s alright. I feel I got my fix. It was absolutely gorgeous.

  2. Ugh, this is amazing! I am so jealous of your travels, and just look at these beautiful pictures!! I wish I could capture moments via grand photography like this! Thanks for sharing your trip- I’m glad it was a good time for all the family 🙂 Fall is beautiful, isn’t it?!

    • mary.l.johnson1@gmail.com says:

Thanks!! Fall is the absolute best. I just need to move somewhere where I can experience it every day! It was 85 today on Oct. 30th! Sheesh!

That video was awesome! What a good idea. Looks like you guys had a blast! I’m from West Virginia and the fall here is just gorgeous. Seneca Rocks is breath taking. Check it out online but it’s better in person especially while the leaves are changing. Love your blog by the way, it is one of my favorites!

Thank you! It was so fun. Seneca rock looks incredible! I think a North East trip is going to need to happen every month if we continue this silliness of living in San Diego… the place without seasons.

Your photos are fantastic, as always, but these are giving me a serious case of wanderlust. I am glad you two had such a lovely time! I went up to Portland, Maine several years ago and I fell completely in love with that small, harbor side town.

P.S. Grey days are the best days!

    • mary.l.johnson1@gmail.com says:

Isn’t it though? We only stopped by Portland by chance because our flight was delayed. But now I wish we would have spent a little more time there.

I’m sitting here at my work desk and wishing so much I could see views like this, but we live in OC and alas…at least we have the beach.

Your photos are beautiful. Can you tell me how you edit them? What app/filters do you use?

    • mary.l.johnson1@gmail.com says:

That’s exactly why we went. I couldn’t take this NO FALL business for one single second. We are in North County San Diego.

I use vsco to edit all my photos and then the iPhone editing capability after that. THEEEEN run it through the instagram editing too. haha its never the same.

  7. Coco says:

I love your black (pea coat?) jacket! Can I ask you what brand it is?

  8. Everything about this inspires me for a fall themed trip this season! Put it on the list!
Love your eye for this type of thing – new favorite blogger.

  9. Kelly says:

I absolutely LOVE your photos. Seriously gorgeous. I know you said you use VSCO for editing, would you mind telling me which filter you use? I just downloaded the app but there’s seriously so many choices I’m not sure which one to purchase. It would be much appreciated! xx, kelly
